A Perfect Game in the Making?

The other night, the men's ministry at our church sponsored a bowling night at the local bowling alley. Even though I did not bowl (I have a chronic lower back issue that does not agree with bowling ... and I had mulching to do the next day!) ... I went just to hang out with the guys. The vast majority of the men are average bowlers at best. But one really stood out. He began his first game with seven straight strikes. "Wow!" I thought to myself, "Maybe I am about to see a perfect 300" (which would be a game of 12 consecutive strikes). And the way this guy was throwing the ball, it certainly seemed possible! As his eighth ball rolled toward the pins ... it again had "strike" all over it. But ... as the dust settled ... one lone pin remained standing! Ouch! A perfect game was not to be!  He went on to roll a 247 which, by any standards is an outstanding game!

Perfection. Whether it be bowling or some other life endeavor, we would all love to attain it. And one day we will. Paul talks about our spiritual perfection and states unequivocally that one day it will indeed be ours to "enjoy!" In his letter to the church at Philippi, Paul writes, "And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ" (Philippians 1:6). So as you get discouraged because you often find yourself not where you want to be in your walk of faith . . . just remember that you are a work in process. And you will remain so until God completes his work in you. In the meantime, get busy doing what God wants you to be doing (and if you don't know what that is ... you need to get into HIS WORD and allow the Spirit of God to show you what that is). In addition you need to be praying that God will continue to pour out his grace upon you as you seek HIM!

Thanks for stopping by . . .
